New Year’s Resolutions suck. This year I’m going really small to score big.

2022 is only a few weeks old, and it feels like I have already more accomplished than in all of 2021. How is that possible?

New Year’s Resolutions don’t work, at least not for me. So this year I tried something different – I set big goals and I work towards them, one tiny atomic habit at the time. Here is my game plan:

Step 1: Set clear goals and go big.

Where do I want to be at the end of the year? What would I like to have accomplished? How will I feel on Dec 31, 2022?

Step 2: Define baby steps

What is the smallest action I can take towards any of my goals? Small action = takes 30 seconds or less to do.

Step 3: Take the same baby step every day

Taking the same action over and over. It’s 30 seconds every day, and it will compound over the year.

Step 4: Keep adding more tiny steps.

I started with 1 step, one atomic habit on day 1. Then I added another one, and then another. If I keep this up I will have built 300 new infinitesimal tiny habits at the end of 2022.

Will it change my life? I have no idea. I’m not even sure I can come up with 300 baby steps to take.

And I’m already seeing results. I already feel more like the person I desire to be in 11 months. So I’m optimistic that this approach can create a huge shift.
